Our Veterinarians

Dr. Jo Olver. Hospital Medical Director. Born and raised on a mixed farm in Southern Manitoba.  A lifelong interest in animals, both wild and domestic, has lead her down a path leading to veterinary medicine.  Pelican Lake Manitoba provided an unlimited source of wildlife and nature, like the western Grebe, and of course the pelicans.   Authors such as Konrad Lorenz,  Gerald Durell,  Lyn Hancock,  James  Herriot and many others provided a glimpse into some of that 'whole wide world' out there.  Veterinary  medicine, draft horses, wildlife, nature, reading,  and travel are some of the many aspects of life which Dr Jo enjoys.

She graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) of the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.   As a veterinarian she met her husband, Chuck,  while out to tend one of his draft horses.  Since then they have established Jockeyport Veterinary Services, and expanded Jockeyport Livery Stables.

Dr. Rich Youket has joined Jockeyport on a part-time basis. Dr. Youket is a graduate of the veterinary college of Cornell university. He is a familiar face to many as he and Dr. Jo worked together at the same nearby practice for a while. After some time working in the Carolinas and Rochester, he has returned to the southern tier to continue veterinary practice in small animal medicine and surgery. Dr. Rich continues to provide much-needed veterinary service to several clinics in the area.

Dr. Peter Oliver was raised in Ballston Spa, NY just south of Saratoga.  His family manages a small flock of sheep, which got him involved in 4-H as a teenager and sparked his interest in veterinary medicine.  He was also very active in the Boy Scouts in High School and became an Eagle Scout in 1998.  He attended Cornell University, College of Agriculture and Life Science where he majored in Animal Science as an undergraduate student, and headed south for veterinary school to attend Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine on the island of St. Kitts in the Eastern Caribbean.  He graduated from Ross in February of 2006 after completing the clinical portion of vet school at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech. and started working at Jockeyport in August of 2006. Some of his hobbies include camping, canoeing, rowing and working with computers.

We welcome you both to Jockeyport!
