How to Make Appointments: Exams and Consultations are by appointments only. Emergency exams are accepted as needed and always take precedence over routine work. When these occur we appreciate your patience and understanding. We care about your pet and their safety is important to us. All animals must be on a leash or in a carrier. We try very hard to stay on schedule, but as with any medical practice, unanticipated emergencies, patients with complex problems, or telephone consultations with other doctors cause unavoidable delays. When these occur, we appreciate your patience and understanding. We know your time is valuable, and our receptionists should be able to let you know what the anticipated delay may be. If we can tell in advance of your appointment that we will be running late (for example, if we have an emergency that demands our complete attention, or if a regularly scheduled surgery is taking much longer than expected), our receptionist will attempt to reach you before you leave home and advise you of our delay. Admissions: Pre anesthesia bloodwork is highly recommended. We will provide further information and will ask for permission for this prior to admission. Animals not on a prescription strength flea medication will be provided an oral prescription flea product during their hospital stay. There will be a charge for this. For scheduled procedures including, surgery, dentals and x-rays, admissions are between 8:00 and 8:30 am. With advance notice exceptions are allowed to admission time. Food is to be taken away at 8:00 pm the night before a procedure requiring anesthesia. Do not take away water. When checking on a hospitalized patient please wait until after 9:00 am to allow the doctors and technicians time for all evaluations of the patient and plans. Visiting is allowed as long as it does not interfere with the healing process. Please call ahead to make sure a visit is right for your pet, and to schedule the time. We ask that you call no earlier than 4:00pm the day of the procedure. At that time we will be able to give you a status report, and let you know what time he/she is to be picked up.
Please do not wait until you are completely out of a medication to request a new prescription or a refill. We require a phone call or you can stop in and leave a message at least 24 hours in advance of when you would be available to pick up the written prescription of refill. This is necessary for our staff to check your pet's medical records, consult with a doctor concerning your request, prepare the medication if that is possible, and to update your pet's medical records to reflect this. Prescriptions for items not in stock, or not carried in the hospital will be provided free of charge. An on-line company endorsed by Jockeyport veterinarians is available for use by clients. Prescriptions will not be issued for use by any non-endorsed on-line company, or catologue outlet at this time. If this protocol changes in the future there will be an associated charge. This is a medical decision made by Jockeyport veterinarians. We are required by law to maintain a valid veterinary, client, and patient relationship, and we feel this decision allows us to abide by this regulation.
